‘Overstimulated’ is the highly anticipated new album from Canadian-born, Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and musician Miranda Joan. Co-produced by multi-instrumentalist, and bass extraordinaire CARRTOONS, the release features offerings from Sly5thAve, Hailey Niswanger, Jake Sherman, Kristine Kruta aka Lil Kruta (The Eagles), Clairo keys player Danae Greenfield and Grammy-winning bassist Ben Williams.

Simultaneously leaning into and letting go of the excessive and overstimulating, the ‘Overstimulated’ LP sees Miranda’s developed songwriting and storytelling shift into a space of contemporary Jazz and Soul. An accumulation of years of growth and development, both personally and professionally, the album was created closely alongside CARRTOONS over several months.

Overall, underpinning every aspect of ‘Overstimulated’ is friendship. Moments of acceptance and appreciation sit alongside moments of recognition for the the beauty, resilience and importance of friendships, during both joyful and difficult times. “There is as much pain in this music as there is joy, but the connective tissue of it all that stands out most to me now is perseverance. We keep going, we keep moving and we keep learning. These were my lessons, these were my challenges, and these were my joys.”

Includes unlimited streaming of Overstimulated via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

Circle 02:38
If I could If I could I would If I could Take me back to earth Cradled in the dirt I’d let got of the heartache first Set my thoughts free Let my mind breeze Fill my head with forest trees And grow a bit taller Circle around my body Circle around my soul I don’t want to be somebody I just want to be whole Oo oo Circle around my spirit Circle around my faith I'm just trying to heal it I just want to make space Oo oo Circle around my body Circle around my soul I don’t want to be some body I just want to be whole I just want to be whole I just want to be Send my memories to the sky Become the clouds that pass me by All the tears I’ve cried Will water the earth One last time Before I plant myself anew (Living in circle) A body pure and true (Loving in circle) Wild and whole (Feeling in circle) Circle around my soul (I’m living in)

Late night Bright light Call me on your phone Stop sign Red light I try not to moan You are something shiny Like a disco ball Like a disco, disco ball And I can’t help but answer Every time you call Think you wanna get a little overstimulated with me Electric shock your finger tips And every time we kiss I can’t breathe But I can see Eyes closed I don’t think I can Take it much longer Every colorful Feeling Is getting stronger You are something fuzzy Like an opiate utopia And I can’t help but melt into Your every touch Cmon Think you wanna get a little overstimulated with me Electric shock your finger tips And every time we kiss I can’t breathe But I can see Think you wanna get a little overstimulated with me Electric shock your finger tips And every time we kiss I can’t breathe But I can see I think you wanna get a little overstimulated with me You've got me overstimulated You’ve got me overstimulated

I like this planet I love it’s magic I feel myself in Mother Earth In everything that’s growing I’d like to see the moon Just outside my room I wonder what it would be worth A trip around the Milky Way I could be an astronaut I could I could be among the stars I could be another shining dot That paints the Galaxy I could be born again I could I could be alien I could find the meaning of everything in Zero gravity I float around enough Sometimes I need the tug That comes with the earth and Everything that’s holds me down How would it taste Sweet love in outer space Or is it more of just the same Like Tang and lemonade, ahh I could be an astronaut I could I could be amongst the stars I could be another shining dot That paints the Galaxy I could be born again I could I could be an alien I could find the meaning of everything in Zero gravity Zero zero Zero zero I could start a life on Mars I could float a boat between the stars I could sail away forever gone And leave the Galaxy I could be born again I could be an alien Find the meaning of everything in Zero gravity Zero gravity Zero zero Zero zero Zero gravity Gravity

She Knows 04:26
She knows me She knows me She knows me She knows Before makeup Before boys Before all the things that weigh us down All the silly noise Before the doubt that came crashing In Between the cracks upon our skin When we were children just playing Oh she knows me She knows Before the body Before the clothes Before everything we learned to hate that wasn’t good enough Before the ocean of opinions came to rise Before we lost ourselves behind the cruelest eyes When we were young just trying to fit in Oh she knows me before Everything All of the time we’ve spent apart All of the tears and broken hearts All of the lessons we’ve had to learn All the ups and downs and all the crazy turns And now we’re grown ups just hanging in But she knows me She knows Before the career Before the goals Before all the things that wouldn’t be quite the way we’d hoped Before the money started ruling the game Before the illness was given a name Before we lost someone we loved and would never be the same And when I’ve lost myself again I’m grateful for a friend Who knows me Who knows me Who knows me Who knows Who knows Who knows me Before everything

about

Blossoming out of what was originally intended as a one song collaboration, Miranda has spent recent years collaborating with east coast producer, multi-instrumentalist, and bass extraordinaire Ben Carr AKA CARRTOONS on her sophomore album ‘Overstimulated’ (out 10th November). “It is an album book-ended by songs of affirmation, of rooting, of returning to and loving oneself, intertwined with the messy, chaotic and interconnected web of my hopes, dreams, imagination, love, and heartache”, Miranda muses. Simultaneously leaning into and letting go of the excessive and overstimulating, the LP sees Miranda’s developed songwriting and storytelling shift into a space of contemporary Jazz and Soul, where the instrumental and acoustic meets the electronic.

Produced by CARRTOONS, the release features further offerings from Sly5thAve, Hailey Niswanger, Danae Greenfield, Jake Sherman, and Ben Williams. The LP includes the singles “Overstimulated”, “I’m Good” and “Too Much” which have received support from the likes of NPR, Deb Grant & Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), BBC Focus Beats, Tony Minvielle (Jazz FM), Boba Fatt (Soho Radio), Consequence, EARMILK, Exclaim!, Stereofox and CBC, as well as playlisting on Spotify’s Fresh Finds.

Born in Montréal, Miranda spent her formative years growing up on the north shore of Vancouver, filling diaries with emotions and experiences. Her influences range from Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, and Carole King to Anderson Paak., Little Dragon and Robyn, drawing on both the classic and the contemporary. Building and developing her unique sound, she moved to New York to study Jazz and opened her inquisitive and creative style to a host of artists and producers in her musical surroundings, as well as the intensity of the city. Miranda is the co-host and co-founder of Brooklyn’s Femme Jam (NYC’s first all-female led jam session); a community initiative to create a womxn-led space with an emphasis on female musicians that fosters inclusivity. Alongside this, arts mentorship has been an important through-line in Joan’s career and for the past decade she has been a music mentor with the non-profit SAY: The Stuttering Association for the Young.

She has performed on national tours, played sold-out and headline shows at well-known New York venues, provided backing vocals for the likes of The Killers, Kylie Minogue, Shawn Mendes, Lorde, and Andy Grammar, and joined Sly5thAve at Montréal Jazz Festival with the Orchestre National de Jazz, in a tribute to Dr. Dre. In 2021 she was selected as one of First Up with RBCxMusic Emerging Artists as she released her debut album ‘Windborne’, the follow up to her 2019 EP “Still”. Both releases received consistent radio airplay in Vancouver and Los Angeles and led to a sync placement on Canadian TV show The Strays.
